Labrador Retriever - Large - Adult - Male - Dog - Jimmy
Description
Jimmy is a friendly male chocolate lab, who was found as a stray. We don't know how long Jimmy was running loose, but we have learned that he can be a bit possessive about his food. He doesn't eat it right away, but he wants to make sure that some other critter doesn't get it either (makes perfect sense if you don't know where you next meal is coming from!) We have been working with him by having him eat his meals out of our hands. He is also learning "leave it/take it" so that he isn't grabby or overly insistent about getting at the food. Other than this issue (which *can* be worked with) Jimmy seems like a really cool guy. For more info on working with this, see http://www.bestfriends.org/theanimals/pdfs/dogs/objectguarding.pdf Because of this behavior, we think Jimmy should probably not go to a home with small kids. Update #2: It turns out that we now know that "Jimmy's" real name is "Drake" -- and that his owners dumped him on purpose, and don't want him back. :-( Apparently they have purchased a new "replacement puppy" instead. We're hoping that Jimmy/Drake can find a loving home that will appreciate him for the great dog he is!
