The horse was originally a child’s plastic rocking horse which I removed from the framework. I then painted it to look like an antique style wooden carousel horse. The mane and tail are adorned with found objects, brass buttons, blue jay feather, brambles. I call it "Bramble Horse”, it has been exhibited in several gallery showings and everyone loves it. The paint is sealed with a clear acrylic coat. It is sturdy for display use only. It would not be suitable for a child to climb on. The pole is a spiral wooden drapery pole with an antiqued stain color. The size of horse is about 35" length x 24" ht x 10-12" depth. The top of the pole height is 67" from the floor. The horse can be removed from the pole. The stand is a bottom part of a bar stool that is painted to match. It can be replaced with something else, placed behind plants or covered with silk flowers. The horse can be removed from the pole and displayed on a shelf in a galloping or rearing position. The horse has a battery powered music box in the underside of the belly.
I participated in the 2003 Miles of Mules public art project where I painted three of the life-size fiberglass mules which were displayed all along the Delaware River area. After that project, I found this little horse..... I have always loved carousel horses and could not resist the urge to turn this one into a work of art!
